I'm a few days behind getting the new Monthly Special feature up, but once you see it I think you'll understand. 66 photos and a short novel takes a while to convert to the web!

Thanks to David for taking the time to submit his story. Be sure to grab a cup of coffee before you start reading. You'll be there a while.

Great story David – it is good to see young people that are into American hot rods!! You will be needing a roll cage soon if you keep improving those ¼ mile times – drag racing is fun fun fun.

That was an interesting read David. I've never been much of a racing type so I found the story very interesting. Interesting in that changing a clutch when it goes bad is major project at my house. After having read your story I feel like a whimp when I complain or worry about some of the little things that go wrong mechanically. Sure sounds like a lot of fun, we don't live anywhere near a drag strip however last year our little podunk town started a drag racing gig on weekends at the local airport. The airport is just a little runway for crop dusters so it isn't like there are really any planes landing on any kind of a schedule.

I never made it to any races last year however it is my intention to go this year. Can't bring myself to modify the CS but I'm thinking maybe I'll start with the flamed Festiva. No mods just go race for the fun I though about looking for something in someones back yard that I could pick up for a song and a dance and possibly start modifying to drag but after reading your adventures I think I'll just go watch, sounds like fun no doubt but I really have way to many hobbies to start sinking that kind of money into drag racing.

Thanks for the read it was really neat.

thank you to everyone who read that entire thing haha...

its funny because writing the 9 page story brought back all the memories and emotions that i felt since i was a teenager.

Jon is the man, because i edited the story about 5 times and i kept adding pictures to the list that needed to be posted to go along with the story and i even asked him to put the pictures in a particular order and he did and i just really appreciate that he took the time to do all that for me.

The pictures from that first accident were taken on Nov. 11, 2002, i was just 17 and when the ambulance and fire truck got to the scene (my aunt called them when she heard me scream)...they all said that the car was totalled, and i was devastated...now the car runs 12s with some cracks in the paint...
im honored to be June's GTCS of the month...that night after that accident i never would have imagined i would be in the situation i am now with the car.

thanks Marie, Randy, Cory, Mustanger, and Joe for what you said.

Holy Smokes David!
The picture of the caved in right side door looks just like mine did when I got T-boned on Christmas Eve 1973.

Let me know when you race next at Fontucky or Lancaster...maybe I can make it there. Great ride!

Cool!

David, having grown up in Chatsworth driving my dad's GT/CS in high school, I really enjoyed reading your story with all the references to Canoga Park locations. So neat to hear how much fun you're having!

I just recently purchased my own GT/CS and am having a great time with restoration. ~ Debra
