I'm a little confused: Starting to install the Deluxe dash pieces, but decided a little paint touch-up was in order for the lower dash area. I ordered the interior aerosol from NPD (Charcoal Black metallic, P/N AP-4464) for a black interior. It looks more charcoal gray, than black. Is this correct?
In the past I usually painted the lower dash a Satin Black for a black interior, but I remembered Charles Turner saying that was incorrect, so I thought I would correct the error of my ways ;) and do it "right".
I'm not crazy about the color/appearance, but if you all can confirm the correctness of this color, I'll leave it. What say you?

Neil, car is looking great.

I just picked up a spray can to touch up my interior. It is a semi gloss black. Here is what is on the can:

67-73 Ford Black Charcoal - metallic (#L-4464)
Accumatch Product
Interior Paint

On the top is a Scott Drake sticker/tag with part number L-4464. This is the product: http://www.championmustang.com/6773-mustang-interior-paint-black-charcoal-p-7228.html

Maybe there is a difference between AP-4464 and L-4464

Neil,
I use the NPD paint as well. It is very thin so I spray a coat of flat black first. Thin coats are better. Be sure to keep shaking the can as it settles out quickly. You can vary the level of gloss by holding the can closer for glosser and further for flater. Good luck Marty

Yeah, the dash was black, and I sprayed light coats of the paint over it. I guess its correct, just not what I'm used to seeing. I may try wafting a light coat of satin black over it to try & darken it a little.

Missed this thread having not been on here very much this year until recently. Neil I am glad to see your CS is about done, great job my friend! I had my dash all apart this past weekend so I could install the '70s era Ford AM/FM stereo w/fader, the kick panels w/speakers and to clean up some of the hacked wiring I'd found. I also wanted to finally clean the dash pad as it had some greasy/oily substance along the front edges and was kinda of dirty, all clean now though. While I had all the stuff off I noticed where POs had stickers on the dash metal at some point so had decided when I redo the interior I'll probably spray a coat or two of that black paint to cover up worn finish where stickers were and touch up a few small scratches, thanks for head's up on the paint Neil! Can't wait to see your CS when she's all done!

DeJaVu!! I also put in an AM/FM (also circa 1970's), with the kick panel speakers. Just got it installed & wired. Tomorrow will be sanitizing wiring, A/C ducts install, then I'll start on the new (used) black console.
In the next few days I'll be visiting an avionics shop to see if we can convert the useless ammeter into a functioning voltmeter. Then I can install the instrument cluster.
I'll stay with the Charcoal Black Metallic color on the lower dash even tho its a different look than what I've been used to for the past 30 years (live & learn!).
When I get this puppy all put together, I'll post some photos.

Got the wiring sanitized today, and re-installed A/C duct from center register to passenger side register. Tomorrow I'll paint the glove box cover (no painting today- raining, and didn't want the paint to blush).

Here are a few pics of Neil's interior. I must say, it's looking good. Sounds corny, but I really like those floor mats.

I agree ...

Yeah, we liked the GT/CS logo floor mats too, so we bought a set through Ron and put them into our car last year ...

Steve was kind enough to post the photos for me (I've got an uploading problem) I brought the car home from work today, to take Peggy to a local Friday nite cruise-in. The car ran perfectly, all systems functioned properly. Got a LOT of comments/questions about C/S's. Folks in this part of the country don't see these cars, and have a lot of questions. We had a nice evening, and the C/S was a hit!
