So i was racing my 68 CS in Fontana this weekend. It was like 38 degrees with a strong wind chill factor that made it feel freezing. Unfortunately the wind was a head wind blowing against me as i raced. Regardless, the mustang pulled its new bests!
first run:
12.199 at 108.56 with a 1.716 60' time
second run:
12.226 at 108.64 with a 1.694 60' time
My previous best at this racetrack 6 months ago when its was over 110 degrees was 12.498 at 109.79mph with a 60' of 1.853.
The modifications made since:
1/2" phenolyc open plenum spacer between the intake manifold and carburetor
new spark plugs and spark plug wires
new steel braided fuel line to the carburetor with a fuel pressure gauge
new dyno tune with 16 degrees initial advance and 36 degrees total timing
so with these changes and the weather being sooo cold, even with the wind blowing against me, the mustang picked up three tenths of a second!! A big part of it was the launch. the 1.853 60' time from July 15, 2006 was not my best because the track conditions...but this time, i actually broke into the 1.6 60' bracket with the 1.694 60' time (for the people who aren't too keen on what that means: imagine a 2500rpm power brake and as soon as you lift your foot off the brake and stomp the gas the tach jumps to over 5000rpm, imagine blasting off the line and almost immediately shifting into second gear!)
i might have gone even faster if it weren't for the 20+mph wind blowing against me...you can see from my trap speeds 108.56 and 108.64 vs. the 109.79mph that the wind resistance was slowing me down.
Someone crashed their 6.0 GTO totalled, pictures posted.
They lost it in a shift into second gear, too squirly with street tires i guess.
BIG NEWS....so i was hopin i would get to see either an 07 GTCS or an 07 Shelby GT500 at the track....
well there was a 2007 GTCS black with a black stripe, pictures posted.
it ran a 14.55 at 100mph with a 2.6 second 60' time (spun tires)...i was impressed...and i learned something about the new CSs that i did not know (They have heated seats!!!!!!!!!) anyways i showed the guy the californiaspecial.com calendar and told him about this site. The two CS's parked side by side in the pits attracted alot of attention.
oh by the way i also had the mustang put on a chassis dyno after the new tune and carb spacer and it put down:
384RWHP and 360 Torque at the rear wheels! thats probably close to 500HP at the engine!
