Does anyone know how, or can do a title search for me for my CS in california? Abika almost got there, but they told me they couldnt do it. I would like to fill in some holes of ownership lineage. Thanks, Casey

As far as I know, there is no way you can trace a car back through the DMV. They haven't allowed that for many years due to stalking and privacy issues.

I had to go to the DMV head quarters and take my title. They were able to pull up all the owners except the original owner. I then bought the copies and was able to contacted the second owner. This was 17 years ago. I was trying to verify that my car was a true CS.

Forgive me if im wrong, being new, but the VIN

should tell you if its real or not. I may be new around here, but this is my experience:

I just got my new title and insurance. They both verified that my car is a GT/CS not a regular mustang. I was suprised, i thought that they (the DMV and insurance) called all 1968 mustangs the same but the dont. My insurance informed me that my car was a GT/CS special edition. That was a cool unespected surprise for the system to verify what i already new.

Nothing in the VIN, on the '68's, identify the car as a California Special. Your state may allow info other than 2 door Mustang Coupe and someone added CS at some point, but that does't guarantee it's a CS. At the risk of offending, and that's not intended, a VIN might read 8R01J111111. 8 is the year (1968), R is the assembly plant (San Jose), 01 means coupe, J is the engine and the rest is the body series number. San Jose built many 1968 Coupes with J code motors but few were CS's. The only true ways to tell is if you have the original sales paperwork or obtain a Marti report. Sorry.

To bring it back on track - I know I have a real GT/CS. I am interested in the title ownership history as part of the records of my car. Thx, casey
