I'm a grad student, teaching human anatomy and eating ramen so I can afford this car.

Been there! I once ate tomato soup and tuna sandwiches for 6 weeks so I could afford a transmission rebuild. REAL car people make sacrifices! When I come to Portland for the swap meet, I'll buy you dinner.

I am currently an IT Specialist for National Marine Fisheries Service, part of NOAA. Before that I was with the Coast Guard for 28 years - 15 on active duty as an Electronics Technician and then officer, and 13 as a civilian IT specialist.

I live in Kodiak, Alaska with my wife of almost 30 years and our six kids. Four are grown, but still live here in town (including our son who is stationed here in the Coast Guard  ). I hunt, fish, hike, and do all those other Alaskan kind of things.

Can't wait to spend those cold winter evenings out in the garage putting my CS back together (it's waiting to be painted right now)!

Neat Thread

I'm a Master Sergeant with the USAF, an Avionics technician by trade and the Maintenance Operations Supervisor now. Just returned from my third deployment to the desert as the Aircraft Maintenance Unit NCOIC and am so looking forward to my retirement in a few years.

Hey everyone! Long time no post! Some of you already know, but I'm a Tactical Coordinator/Mission Commander on the U.S. Navy P-3 Orion. Been in the Navy 12 years. I'm in Jacksonville, FL right now, but I'm stationed in Whidbey Island, WA. The Navy is doing its best to keep the miles down on my GT/CS as I've only been home 3 out of the last 13 months. As much as I don't like being away from my family (and the Mustang) I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Thanks to all those on this forum that have expressed support for the military!

I'm a color timer in the motion picture industry. I've been doing this for 20 years. I'm still working with that old medium, film, but am hoping to move into the digital side of things at some point.

Basically it's my responsibility to make sure that all of the projects I work on look as good as they can or that I make them look the way my clients want them to look.

This involves changing the color and/or density (brightness) on every shot within a show so that it flows with the surrounding shots. For each scene or sequence within a show we want to make it look as though it's all happening in the same "space" so to speak. So the wide, establishing shots should fit with the close-ups and each subject's close up needs to fit with the overall scheme or "look" of the sequence. When I do my job right, nobody notices anything.

After adjustments are made then new "prints" are struck and screened to see how well the changes work. It's not uncommon for there to be three or four (sometimes more even) trials to be made in order to even out a show. Even in this digital age, the process of getting the color right on film is still trial and error. Basically, the more experience you have, the better guesser you are with your corrections.

I've worked on anything from student shows to theatrical releases. These days I've primarily been busy working on older shows that need preserving by creating newer archival elements for them.

Where have you been stationed? Myself, Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC (1983-1986) working on F-4E ejection seats, McConnell AFB, KS (Kansas Air National Guard) 1986-1996 working on F-4D, F-16 A,B,C,D & B-1B ejection seats. Finally, as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer with the KANG from 1996-2002. We went TDY to alot of places, maybe we were in the same places??
