When is gone GONE for a car

Since the car doesn't have a door tag I went for one of those also to have. So i'll seat here and wait for 3 or so weeks.

Paul I love what you have done with your car and the one I have is pretty much in the same shape you started with. I have notice in the catalog that the offer different quarters with different prices. Which quarters did you buy and from where I priced from the mustang unlimited catalog.

Also anyone know where a guy can pickup a 289 motor???

We either bought our rear quarters from NPD or Mustangs Unlimited. They were the full size. We cut them off and our body guy glued/welded the new ones back in place. We also replaced almost all of our wheelhouses and back interfender pieces. Therefore, everything lined up pretty darn good.

As for the 289 motor, we ended up with a 302 and a 289 hipo. The 302 came from the guy who sold us the car but the 289 hipo came from a junk yard. We used the two of them to put our new motor together. Our engine builder put in all new components. Lastly, we had a guy recurve our distributor for added horsepower. Along with a pretty good size cam, the car sounds great with dual exhausts.

I'd say restore it. It can't be in worse shape then the one I'm working on now and it's not even a Mustang!

I agree. Wait until you get the Marti. Then, if you proceed, media blast it and get something like Por 15 in those areas to stop the rust. Primer coat everything for exterior. Start cutting out those areas you will replace and find yourself a rotissorie. You will be glad you have it doing a project of this size.

We worked on ours basically on weekends and some week nights. We started in Nov 03 and finished it Feb 05. It can be done!!!!

well to save money on trying to find a 289 and rebuild it I guess I could just get the 390 S-code from a 67 and 4 speed redone and put it in the car. Since I have the complete motor setting in my dad's shop. But I would like to go back to org spec's. Not sure lots of ideas in the air.

...Those are impressive pictures, Wow. Personally, I think the motor is the last thing for priority now. Paul is 100% correct and a good guy to know if you've seen his gallery As "bare bones" as you have to go in this case, you'll certainly have the option to go 289 or 390, 4-spd., but let us know what the Marti reads... There will need to be some other mods for the big block ie; mounts, shock towers, suspension, springs,... rearend rebuild... You have your work cut out for you - let's hope you enjoy the journey however you go.

1969 Fairlane 500 Convertible. It was my oldest son's first car. I bought it for him on the condition he maintain it. He blew the tranny and decided it was too much work so he gave it back. I'll probably give it to him again when I finish it, since he's older now and will appreciate it more. Here's a "before" pic.

1969 Fairlane 500 Convertible. It was my oldest son's first car. I bought it for him on the condition he maintain it. He blew the tranny and decided it was too much work so he gave it back. I'll probably give it to him again when I finish it, since he's older now and will appreciate it more. Here's a "before" pic.

One thing you might consider is buying a complete 68 parts car. I found one for $300.00 and it was a life saver, as well as a money saver. Turned out it had tinted glass, and all kinds of mounts, fasteners, this and that. Even Midnight special got stuff off of it for his cars. Even if you have to pay $1000.00 for one, you will save money in the long run. With the exception of the deck lid, qtr. panel extentions, tail light panal and side scoops, everything else is 68' mustang. Good Luck. I know what it takes myself. Mike

Good point. We did the same by buying a parts car. It was a regular 68 Coupe Mustang that had heavy rear end damage. We mainly wanted the main underdash harness but received a lot more. The main thing that helped us was that we got to take stuff off it and therefore knew how it went back together.

'Ditto Mike and Paul! Mike gave me some long-term replacement parts to include door hinges, trunk spring mechanism... But there is huge potential to save you thousand$ re; replacement parts in addition to a core 289/ 302 to rebuild...

Steve, for me that was just an odd way of saying you have another unique & beautiful car.

Joe would make much better "son" I'm sure. ....Except for his allowance! He will hit you up at least three times a year to replace the rear tires. Make him work for it!!!

Well I have my Marti Report email that shows they have my order. From what is say's it's going to be 20 business day before I get it. That est is because I ordered a door tag also.

Anyone know if you can the VIN tag in the window redone also. If I take on this project it will need to be replace due to it being weathered so bad. I think I posted a picture in the gallary if not i'll try to get one in there.
