Would you enjoy your GT/CS more with a manual or auto tranny?

If there is one thing I do not like much about my GT/CS is that the car has an automatic transmission. Since It wont be a daily driver I enjoy Sunday and occasional driving more with a manual transmission. Since I am a purist I wont change the transmission but could not find the S code 4 speed car that I was looking at the time of purchase.

Any of you fellow members feel the same or are happy with what you got in yours??

I would always go manual if I can. I can feel the power more. As an aside I drive a 2000GT convertible manual everyday to work - 18miles one way and about 50minutes in traffic one way. I love the manual and my leg gets a good workout. And I can beat anyone from one red light at the intersection to the next intersection 500 feet away:confused: Casey

Mine has a manual 4 speed top loader with Hurst shifter and I love shifting down and hearing the smooth running engine and tranny. It`s a workout since I`m only 5 ft 1 in tall. (Can barely push in the clutch and shift at the same time.) But I love it. Alot of people are amazed that I can drive it. It`s geared really low, it takes off fast and sounds really good.

Good Question ... at least for me right now.

My original is a 3 speed and my new one is an automatic.
I haven't driven the new one much because I'm doing some work on it and it's partially apart. Had the 3 speed out for a drive today and I'm going to miss the shifting I think.

I enjoy shifting - I have a 96 GT Convertible that is a 5 speed as well.

I'm curious to see how I'm going to like the auto.
I do think about years down the road and getting older and shifting becoming more difficult.

I'll try to remember to come back and post my thoughts once my new auto is on the road.

I like the auto much better. If I am in a manual I have to turn into the female version of Smokin' Joe, and go thru tires way to fast.

For shere feel of power and put your butt in the seat excitement, I have to go with the 4 speed. Now on the other hand when stuck in traffic the auto would be nice but, I'll have to pass on that one. I'll stick with my 4 speed.

Having gone through High School in the late 70s/early 80s, you could have your pick of muscle with either an auto or stick. Me, I first learned on a 57 Chevy Cameo with a 3 on the tree. Still have the truck too. My next was a BB/4spd 65' Impala. Miss that car. My next was a 390/4spd GT/CS. Hooked on 4 speeds since. My wife Too. When we look at a car at a car show for sale, we look for a stick, and if we don't see one, or a third pedal, we continue looking down the line. Just my opinion. mike

I don't believe in an "or world". I believe in an "and world". I can have a 4-speed AND an automatic. That's why I have both. And my mood dictates which one I drive.

That's my boy!

You can also put a higher stall torque converter and manual shift body in your automatic. It should help your ET and you can pretend to have a manual without the leg workout.
