1968 Tail light issues - how much is tied to other lights?

So this post may be more for documenting because the question may answer itself as I continue reassembly. But at the moment my rear tail lights work on hazards only. And with only hazards on, only my right taillight works. If I turn on hazards and either turn signal then both taillights blink...

1968 Autolite 2100 2V carb accelerator pump disintegrating after 3 months?

Thanks. Yes, it's possible it's from carb cleaner. I did not soak the carb, but I did very liberally spray down the fuel bowl. It's possible some carb cleaner got past the rubber check valve and sat there overnight.

1968 Progress on recovering front seats, using 1969 headrests

Oh and if anyone is looking to do this project I highly recommend compound diagonal cutters. These have 2 pivot points, so they cut with more force than standard diagonal cutters. It cuts through hog rings one handed with ease. I also got these nice hog ring pliers. Years and years ago I...

1968 Progress on recovering front seats, using 1969 headrests

A couple of people have asked in the past what the 1969 headrest mechanism looks like, so here are some pics of that.

1968 Progress on recovering front seats, using 1969 headrests

I just wanted to share some progress photos of recovering my seats this weekend. I'm using 1968 upholstery, but 1969 seat frames to get the factory headrests. Original 1969 seats. These were pretty rough with quite a bit of rust on the frame. So I stripped them down, shot them with some rust...

1968 Autolite 2100 2V carb accelerator pump disintegrating after 3 months?

I had rebuilt my 289-2V carb just about 3 months ago when I fired up my freshly rebuilt engine. All new parts including accelerator pump. It's been at the paint shop for most of that time, so has only been started to get it on and off the trailer. And that was a struggle because the engine...

1968 Long overdue progress photos from my '68 HCS

We did most of the small dent and ding repair type body work ourselves, but we decided to farm out the major rust repair. Both rear lower quarters, as well as top & front of the rear fenders had significant rust that needed to be cut out and patch panels welded in. And the front lower corners of...

1968 Long overdue progress photos from my '68 HCS

Back from the paint shop! We're really excited to finally have the HCS back after a couple of months at the paint shop. This is an original Highland Green car and I'm really happy with how the color turned out. I gave the painter the original Ford formulas from the various threads here on the...

    1968 ID these fasteners...

Perfect! Thanks so much! I just checked the gas tank filler and the body shop had used the wrong screws when reassembling. They had the right screws, which they gave me back in a bag with other misc fasteners. They just didn't realize where they went. And yes, those studs are for the backup...

    1968 ID these fasteners...

I'm organizing my ziplock bags of parts getting ready for re-assembly, but I've run across some bolts that were mislabeled. Anyone know what these are? I thought the studs w/ nuts on them were maybe the rear quarter panel extension bolts, but they aren't. The studs are smaller diamater and...

    Wanted wide grill opening moldings

You're talking about this piece, right? I have an extra, but it's only the driver's side. And it's a standard '68 grill, so you'd have to drill the hole for the Lucas lights. But it's yours if you need it.

    1968 Tail light bulb sockets

You're right of course. I hadn't thought of that. I put quite a bit of force into one of them and it didn't budge. I didn't want to break it. It's probably the corrosion, so I sprayed some electronic cleaner and will let it sit overnight.

    1968 Tail light bulb sockets

It appears the light bulb sockets are not removable from the housing. Can anyone confirm? One of my lenses must have had a leak at some point. The sockets on that side are all corroded and rusted.

    1968 Neil Hoppe

Oh no! This is terrible news. Neil was a huge part of this community and will be sorely missed. Our condolences to his family. As my son and I have been plodding along on fixing up our '68 HCS we always felt like he was lapping us. He just kept cranking out the restorations! RIP friend.

    1968 Hood lock cut out

Not sure yet. I got the hood and repop driver's fender to the body shop last Fri. It will probably be a week before they can give me feedback.
