1968 shift indicator plastic rod in console unhooked

Neil, when you get to the console install on your car please look over what is needed to get that little shift rod back in the hole. Just like you, I have had a bad cold and garage work stopped, but ready to get back at it now.

1968 shift indicator plastic rod in console unhooked

Thanks, and I can wait until you get yours back f rom the paint shop. The AOD swap turned out to be just so SWEET, and that is when the little plastic rod became unhooked. It is no big deal to not have that little light but we all know how things like that bug us. What ever it takes to fix it...

1968 shift indicator plastic rod in console unhooked

Does anyone have a console out of their car and apart right now that could see if just taking the screws out of the top pad and removing it as suggested in one of the above posts would provide access to the shift light rod?

1968 shift indicator plastic rod in console unhooked

Do you thinkk that the entire console needs to be removed, radio, etc, or in your opinion is there enough room to remove just the four screws that mount it to the floor and lift just enough to try and get the rod back in place. Is seat removal needed to get the screws in and out as in a 65 - 66...

1968 shift indicator plastic rod in console unhooked

Does anyone have a suggestion how to hook up the plastic rod that connects the gear shift lever to the shift indicator light under the console. I replaced my shift linkage and shifter bushings from underneath the car while installing an AOD and must have let the little plastic rod get unhooked...

1968 AOD transmission swap slip yoke ID

Using the 89 AOD yoke is my plan, but I do not have an 89 AOD yoke and was trying to locate it at the salvage yards in this area. I imagine that this yoke is common to other Ford applications, but no one seems to know what those applications are. So if someone knew what interchanged with that...

1968 AOD transmission swap slip yoke ID

For some reason the stock C4 yoke is a couple of inches too long, and the splines on the inside of the C4 yoke do not begin for the first two or so inches inside of the yoke. It seems that the stock yoke may work if I shorten it, but as it is only a small portion of the splined area inside of...

1968 AOD transmission swap slip yoke ID

Trying to identify the source for the transmission slip yoke used with the c-4 to AOD transmission swap. Looking for possible doner vehicles or the Hollander Interchange number to use the stock driveshaft with the AOD. Do all AOD driveshafts have the same yoke or does this project require a...

    1968 AOD Xmember for 68?

Yes, I have the TV cable (LOKAR). Right now the whole thing is sitting on saw horses in the shop, and after some experimenting it appears that the stock shifter arm on the 68 will, with slight modification, be perfect for the AOD. I have a modified C6 shifter rod that will be used, perhaps more...

    1968 AOD Xmember for 68?

Anyone have photos or prints of an X-member for an AOD swap into a 68? Any hints or advice? Will the stock dual exhaust "H" pipe clear the AOD. Anyone use a Ron Morris X-member for this swap?

    trans swap

Does the exhaust "H" pipe need to be modified with the AOD, or does someone make a prebent replacement for this swap if in fact the original will not clear the trans? How about the cooler lines? I think that they are now available prebent for this swap but can't remember where I saw the ad for...

    1968 LED tail light bulbs?

I attempted to search the old posts, and the only info located was that Neil had put in a set of "superbright LEDs with 30 "lights" in each one but decided to take them out since they were not as bright or at best no brighter than the 1157 bulbs. Casey had the Mustang Projects lights in his and...

    1968 LED tail light bulbs?

Can anyone recommend a brand or source or ID# for LED replacement bulbs for our tail lights. Looking for a bulb that is brighter than the stock bulbs in both the tail light and turn signal mode. Some reports indicate that a switch to certain LED bulbs lessen the brightness of the tail lights -...

    1968 Carburetor Question

Neil, Autolite is the original for our 68 "J" code engines, I think the automatic cars used a carb with the following stamped number on the tag: C8ZF-D There were Motorcraft carbs that were used as a replacement for this rather troublesome Autolite unit, and sold through ford Parts and Service...

1968 Strong gas smell after driving

That very problem happened to me on a 66 many years ago and the fumes were coming from the "roller weld" that joins the bottom half of the gas tank to the top half. With the windows down the fumes were sucked from the trunk into the passenger area and a gasoline small was present. With the...

1968 Replace A/C / heater box or fan for greater airflow?

The condenser on my car is one from NPD. I think it was called a "6 pass" when it was purchased along with a new dryer. The condenser was missing from the car when I purchased it so have no basis for comparison.
