I'm working on adding a new feature to the site; Product Reviews. We all put hard earned money into our cars and it would be nice to get member recommendations before writing some of those big checks.

At the moment I'm setting up the categories and would like your help. If you've bought a part/product recently that you might want to review please post it here. Don't post your review, just a list of items you would be willing to review once I get it set up. I'm just looking for a good starting point to structure the review page.

Thanks!

Jon, Thanks for putting the ads back on the side of the page for Ebay. I really missed that feature.

I would have liked to have some reviews about sheet metal replacements. ie: Doors, floorpans, fenders, rear quarters, etc Had some real headaches on that one!
Also, I would suggest reviewing suppliers or refinishing shops such as overhead console pads, chrome refinishers and such.

Might also be helpful to have reviews of steering and suspension parts (aftermarket restomod and original replacement types) ie: Shocks, springs, steering etc.

Would also be good to have reviews concerning replacement wiring harnessses, light socket replacements etc.

I would suggest also doing a review of front disc brake replacement systems.

Jon, this is a very good idea. This would have been GOLD for me to have during my restoration.

I think this is a great idea as well. It seems like someone is always getting on the site looking for something. Look forward to the new feature.

Thanks for the suggestions. That gives me a good idea for basic categories. As reviews come in it will evolve, but that's a good place to start.

So does anyone want to write a review or two to get us started? Please PM me and I'll give you the link. The first few will be guinea pigs to work out any bugs and then I'll open it up to everyone.

How 'bout Pedal Cars, and Ambulances??

But seriously, folks...

What about insurance, especially now that our cars are rising in value? Also--new body paints, engine rebuilds for unleaded gas, and I like the aftermarket parts ideas. I could provide a list of currently available Shelby aftermarket parts that were the type available in mid-'68.

This is an awesome idea, Jon. I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from this.

Thanks--

Jon, I just received a Mustangs Plus catalog in the mail and I again noticed that they are mostly about suspensions and upgrades. It might help to have some way to say what a particular vendor is good at and not so good at, or what the vendor's specialty is.

Also like to see a comment area about the vendors websites. Some are much easier to navigate than others. And as far as I can figure out NPD is phone or fax ordering only. Does anyone know if it's possible to order on-line from them?

BTW, NPD is the only vendor I've found that sells the chrome tail light screws.

I think you are right. I always ordered everything from NPD by phone, tracked everything by Excel. I ordered a lot of stuff from NPD, Mustangs Unlimited, and Branda.

I also ordered some good, hard to find stuff from Virginia Classic Mustang. Brian Beatty pointed me their way as another supplier.

Jon - Building off what Moses's suggests, maybe it would be a good idea to review parts supplier's. We could write good and bad things about the supplier.

Yeah, I do have a vendors section to comment on the company itself rather than the products they make.

One thing I would like to be careful of is "vendor bashing" where people use the review system to simply complain. Simply saying "this company sucks" doesn't really help anyone, so I'll probably monitor reviews to be sure they stay constructive. That's not to say you can't post a negative review, but just back it up with some facts, not just emotion.

I think there should be a part of this new area that includes basic service parts info, such as:

Headlights
Air Cleaners / Oil Filters
Spark Plugs, Cap/Rotor
Tires
Wheel bearings / Axle bearings
Fan Belts
Antifreeze
etc...

Include the generic part numbers, and a list from stores like Kragen/Schucks, etc., store. This might seem like an academic thing, but many would appreciate the basics of maintance, and the related parts. I also think everyone should have the 1968 FORD Shop Manual for the Mustang, too. it has things like timing specs, alignment specs, etc. that the local auto repair may not have.

And to play off Paul's idea we might want a section for things like where to buy fog light bulbs that will work, even if they aren't the "correct" brand or type, etc.

Vehicle Delivery Services - Who is good. With so many cars bought via internet, this would be a good thing to review.

Also, on a slightly different vein: Could we consider a store area for the site for GTCS/HCS items? With diecast cars, shirts, license frames, books, calendars and other GTCS/HCS items around or coming, it would be nice to have a place for this rather than in post threads?? Just a thought.

I like the idea of a store as well. Very cool.

Jon - would it be difficult to have a monthly member focus? Pictures from the gallery pulled out and put on home page that would feature a member per month and we can get a good look at their car??
