The VIN is 1 away from another "T" code in the '96 registry. Interesting. I put in a small bid just because it's less than a day away. Wish I had room for another car, I'd go after it more seriously.

It looks like he got a good self portrait of himself when he was taking a picture of the California Special script. I think he has his stats wrong though. Mine is a T code and the Marti report says out of 4118 GT/CS`s 148 of those had 200-1V engines of which 101 had a 3 speed manual transmission. He`s close, but its not quite as rare as he is saying it is. It is a nice looking car though. The trunk area looks a little rough around the edges I think.

Oh yeah, if I had the time and space I'd buy that puppy in a heartbeat and drop a late model V6 in it!

Going back on the topic of a thread about a week or so ago - Looking at that scoop - there is no "witness" line right?
I don't see it on mine either and I was sure my scoops were original - maybe they were sanded down at some time like someone had mentioned.

Rich, they almost always get sanded down so not having them isn't necessarily bad but having them is great.

Hmm...I have one with the witness line, and the other without....what to do? I think I will just leave it. I think I would be only 1 of 3 people in Illinois that would know the difference (but it still bugs me....) Casey

Mine is the same as yours Casey. One with and one without. I figure I`m the only one in my area thats gonna know the difference. Mine isn`t all original so it does`nt bother me as much as if it was.

As long as I've got my "Marti Report" I'm fine. Neither of my scoops have the witness line due to all the body work and paint and I know they are original.

1968 6-cylinder CS

Wow, I can't believe what a great site this is! I'm currently feverishly hunting for a CS on Ebay and ran across your site. I looked at the red 68 and was prepared to bid until I came on the site and had seen a lot of folks critique it. I then started looking at the 6 cylinder Burgundy one. I've had a 68 coupe and currently own a 68 Barracuda convertible, but my heart is just not into Mopar. I only bought it because it was reasonable and available at the time. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on what you folks think the 68 6 cylinder is worth and if it is at least mostly correct? I'm not looking for V-8 performance, just a CS!!! Could you tell me what you think?

Rust is a big question and I can't tell from the pictures if the car has any. The grille needs to be replaced and it looks like the paint is shiny but has issues. Check the picture of the picture of the top of the passenger fender.

The other issue is the recent Barrett-Jackson auction. That threw the values totally upside down so we're all a litte hesitant to quote numbers. But since I've always been a little bit of a rebel.....If we assume there is a little hidden rust I'll throw out a price of around $10,000 - $12,000.

How much are you looking to spend and what condition do you want?

The peple on this site have everything from rust buckets to 100 point cars, and they know where a lot of others can be found, so we should be able to help you in your quest.

Welcome aboard

I wouldn't want to pay serious money for this car unless I looked at it first. The grill is wrong and looking at the trunk lip above the gas cap I'd say it got hit in the back at one time also. I'd want to see if the taillight panel was original and how the body work front and back looks. If I was going to spend some real money, I'd also pay the $7.00 for a quick Marti report to verify it's a real CS. Just because it's only 1 number away from one that was reported previously doesn't guarantee it's authentic. Good chance it is, but not guaranteed. The 6 cyl. cars don't seem to be as sought after as the big blocks and J codes, but that doesn't mean it isn't desireable. If I didn't have a CS already and really wanted one and this one checked out OK for body work and the Marti, I would guess if you could get it for $12K it would be a steal and $15K would be about right, in the current market. One of our members lives in Boise. Hopefully he'll chime in here. He may know the car personally or be willing to go look at it for us. (Hint, Hint)

MOSESATM, I guess as of today, I'm looking to spend 15k. If I can sell the Barracuda, I'm probably looking at about 19k or so to spend. I'm really just looking for a 10 footer or so to drive my kids around on the weekends. I almost could care less whether it's a 6 or 8 banger; I just want any nice, fairly reasonalby original CS.

I'm currently in the military and we do a lot of moves, so I may have to just have one classic car to lug around. I thought about doing both the Mustang and keeping the convertible (the kids love having their hair whip around), but I realistically have to figure that one car will be easier than two. I've also noticed over the past several years that the CSs are steadily climbing. I think I may have to try to "catch the train" before it leaves the station, so to speak. If I wait too much longer, I may not be able to a-FORD one of these awesome cars. My family has worked for Ford since 1927, so getting one of these would be a real treat....If anybody could watch out for a reasonable one for me, I'd owe ya a dinner. I've already got a pre-approved loan and on Ebay my handle is "Redwingrobb". You'll see that my feedback is impeccable.

Welcome aboard Robb. You'll find the members on this site have a wealth of knowledge about the CS. As well as a lot of knowledge about how to restore them also. Any questions, just ask and I'm sure somebody here will have the answer. By the way check out the below links I've posted and happy shopping. As with any purchase on a classic mustang, always get a Marti Report. As was mentioned earlier you can have them fax you a quick copy to verify any car prior to purchase. Just call: (623)935-2558 or click on the "VIN Reports" area in the upper left hand corner of this site for contact info and website address. As you can see they run the gamet up and down the price line.
And thanks for the job you do helping to protect this country.

I do appreciate the info. I'd love to get a CS soon, but am willing to wait it out to get the best fit for me. I am super hesitant to buy a vehicle online, but figure that's probably the only way I'm going to get a CS. I can definitely tell that you folks have a lot of knowledge. I owned a 68 Coupe, but find that there are things on the CS that I just don't have a clue about and what to look for. I'm keeping my eye on the 6-cylinder, but somebody mentioned that it looked like the back end may have had some work. Is there some kind of stamp inside the tailight package that would identify it as a CS vs. a T-Bird or Cougar insert?

Now I'm curious about this side scoop witness line thing...

My passenger side has the witness line. The driver side does not.

How many of you guys/gals have this same thing?

I'm wondering now if maybe it came this way?
