Took the car to the gas station last saturday morning to fill up the new tank since doing the 2-gallons-at-a-time thing was getting a little old. On the way there I was perplexed by the fact that I couldn't see the hood turn signals. Check out the photos.
Guess I'll just add it to my list of projects.

Excuse my (extreme) ignorance, Arlie, but are the hood signals, standard equipment on all 68's or an option like in 1967 called the Sport Sprint (or something like that) option?

Way price of gas is going, the "2 gallons" at a time of Persian Perrier may be a more common than you might think, Arlie.

The turn signal hood was standard on the GT/CS and I believe it was standard on all '68 Mustangs. It was optional in '67.

I'm confused...

You mean, you never saw your hood turn signals--because they were not positioned properly?

As for the '68 hood. The Louvered hood (with turn signals) was an option for '67. it was "supposed to be" a standard item for '68, and was so on all the '68 Mustangs built before Jan 1968. The Fed mandated safety features, specifically the shoulder harnesses, nixed the louvered hood as a std. item, and it went back to being an option.

The turn signals in the hood is a carryover from the Thunderbird of that era.

The louvered hood was part of the GT/CS package--so all of you should have one.

An interesting side note--I once thought how cool it would be to make a small sequential flasher in the hood signal lights; divide the housing into three parts, and put in three lights (LEDs), to blink "1-2-3", left or right.

Also--if you had the 428CJ hood scoop, the flashers were moved to the rear of the scoop, since you couldn't see the right side one if it was in the hood, blocked by that big air recepticle in the way!

To clarify the "Also", please be aware that the 428 CS, HCS and all 1968 Cobra Jet cars have PLAIN hoods with a scoop that have NO turn signal lights at all. I believe the '69 CJ cars are the ones that have the turn signals on the rear of the scoop, for what this is worth. thank you, HC Bob here.

Bob is correct. No 68 CJ's got the turn signal hood or turn signal flashers in the scoop, 69's did.

The way the louvers are angled they blocked the lenses. Could have probably seen something at night.

Means popping your louvers out and reinstalling your turn signals. Not that big of a job, however extra work.

Arlie - good luck. They do look cool when they are put in correctly.

Decided to do it last night. Of course most of the tabs were broken so a little glue was required.

Thats the first time you`ve driven it Arlie? And you`ve had it how long? I would have been going nuts to have to wait that long. I love the little turn signals on my car. My 67 convert had them and so did my mom`s 70 Mach 1.

...yeah, but..but.....on my 1967 light blue motorized "TOY" Mustang, you got a hood scoop to glue on top of the louvered hood! Whaaat? That's not authentic?

...and I thought Peddle Cars were a concours reference, too.

I better re-think my sources.

thanks, Bob!
I stand, um...corrected!

I don't know.......my 10 minute trip to the gas station turned into a 45 minute ordeal because so many people just had to come over to look over the car and talk, and talk, and talk. I didn't think I was ever going to get out of there!

The other cool thing about our cars are the window washers. Since they are hooked up to the wipers it's easy to mess with our passengers by pushing the pedal just enough to activate the wipers...with both hands on the wheel. Totally bugs them out!!!

I have to tell my window washer story. My everyday car has a parking break that is activated by a small foot pedal on the left (you know where this is going...)When I first got my CS out of the shop, I had been so used to the 'mom' car that I pushed the window washer pedal thinking it was the break. It really startled me! I didn't even know it had window washing ability. After I've been driving the CS for a while, I reach for the clutch and try and shift the MDX!

Arlie: Charge "50 cents a look" at the gas station, and you could buy a few more gallons while you were there. I think I solved the GT/CS gas crunch!

Wiper Pedal: Back in the late 70's I'd take my Special to Boy Scout campouts, and I used to fool those in my car by saying the wipers were voice activated. I'd say "GO", and voila! They moved. ooooh....aaaahhhh!! I was the master!

(BTW--didja you know that that little pedal had it's own little rubber pad? yup.)
