Also, some owners on site have posted that the black covers w/round holes are the proper covers for us and that the black ones w/rectangular holes are later yet. What gives? Come on, who knows? Paul N's '89 book makes note on pg. 42 of the "new style" as being the LATE ones. In his '95 book, pg 117, notes rectangular holes and white w/ black letters are late covers. Paul, where did all this come from, anyway? HC Bob here.
Hi Bob, I always thought the round eye covers were "period correct" meaning they came from 1968 - though there is no evidence that any Shelby or GT/CS came with covers. So, I checked with Pete at Orando Mustangs (has a large inventory of Lucas lights and restores them). He has some original ads, etc. on this and below (in quotes) is his response (Pete, if you are reading, thanks for the info).
If any of you are looking for Lucas or Marchal fog lamps or restoration of yours consider checking with Pete

"Casey, The 1968 -1970 Mustangs & Shelbys would come with the round hole type Lucas Cover. I have some old display cases from 1970 - 1975 that have the square hole type cover.
The LARGE White covers with Black Letters were designed to fit over the Square Eight Plus Lamps. These were sold over the counter, not supplied on any Mustangs. We sell these lamps for using on Clone cars.
As far as JUDGING. I don't see how a judge could deduct for inappropate
covers. Most cars did not have the covers included with them. So... should all cars be required not to have covers ( when in a judging event) ?
I have always heard rumors: The covers were sometimes stored in the cars glove box, when sold new. This story could only be supported by original owners. Pete Geisler"
