Which covers are correct?

Pictures don't come up when I hit the links but everyone seems to agree that the covers with the small round eyes are correct. The rectangular eye covers seem to have been introduced in the early '70s.

Thanks Arlie!

If you scroll down the pictures are below. For some reason they aren't at the top of the auction.

If figures the correct one's are the more expensive ones.

I kind of like the "incorrect" version because I think the blue lettering would look good against the blue car ... and they're bit cheaper although the other's have a BIN of $90 with a start at $60.

Rich, I agree with you. I'm using the rectangular-eye covers for the same reason, plus I just like them better. I might still have a good set of them that I'll sell to you cheap. I'll take a look when I get home and PM you.

Well I learned something new about Lucas Fog lamp covers. I have the rectangular type and did not realize the others were actually correct. And I sure paid a lot more than what's listed on the current E-Bay offer. Not just because I have the "rectangular " style, I do like the way they look vs. the "correct ones."

Steve, I run those (white with black letters) covers on 2 of my HCS cars. One set was in the trunk of my 1st HC in 1983 and I bought a 2nd set out of the SAAC newsletter last year. Love them even tho some SAY they are not proper for '68 cars. Never did see any documentation to a yea or nay from anyone on this. Also, some owners on site have posted that the black covers w/round holes are the proper covers for us and that the black ones w/rectangular holes are later yet. What gives? Come on, who knows? Paul N's '89 book makes note on pg. 42 of the "new style" as being the LATE ones. In his '95 book, pg 117, notes rectangular holes and white w/ black letters are late covers. Paul, where did all this come from, anyway? HC Bob here.

Those white covers are great! From what I've been able to figure out they were originally for the Lucas Super 8 lights (ours are Square 8s), which may have been used on some early '68 Shelbys. Attached is a picture.

Hi Bob, I always thought the round eye covers were "period correct" meaning they came from 1968 - though there is no evidence that any Shelby or GT/CS came with covers. So, I checked with Pete at Orando Mustangs (has a large inventory of Lucas lights and restores them). He has some original ads, etc. on this and below (in quotes) is his response (Pete, if you are reading, thanks for the info).

If any of you are looking for Lucas or Marchal fog lamps or restoration of yours consider checking with Pete http://www.orlandomustang.com/restoration.html. Casey

"Casey, The 1968 -1970 Mustangs & Shelbys would come with the round hole type Lucas Cover. I have some old display cases from 1970 - 1975 that have the square hole type cover.

The LARGE White covers with Black Letters were designed to fit over the Square Eight Plus Lamps. These were sold over the counter, not supplied on any Mustangs. We sell these lamps for using on Clone cars.

As far as JUDGING. I don't see how a judge could deduct for inappropate
covers. Most cars did not have the covers included with them. So... should all cars be required not to have covers ( when in a judging event) ?

I have always heard rumors: The covers were sometimes stored in the cars glove box, when sold new. This story could only be supported by original owners. Pete Geisler"
