Hey, my name is Jack and my Dad and I bought a 1968 California Special to restore as my first car. I am 12 and we figure it will take us 5-6 years to fix it up. It needs alot of elbow grease. I am excited to start working on it. We live in Steilacoom, Washington and hope to make alot of new friends to give us advice. Thank you. Jack

Woo hoooo! Another Wa State member!!

What color? Where did you find your car? What code is the engine? Be sure to post your Marti report so we can take a look. It's under the thread "Post your Marti here".

Would you like me to include you in the NW events for GT/CS cars? There are about 7 of us (that I know of) in this state with running CS cars, and a plethora of information to share with you! Private message me your email address if you like.

Welcome to the site, Jack!

Jack, welcome to the site. Here you will find anything and everything GT/CS and HCS related.

I think one of the quickest ways to learn about all the special features on our cars is to check the cars on eBay for flaws. Or post the threads here and we'll point them out for you! For example the outer edges of the chrome bezels surrounding the taillights should not be painted black but most people don't know this so they install their new bezels straight from the bax, without removing the black paint.

Come to think of it we haven't picked apart a car in a long time so maybe we should do so just for Jack's education!!!:icon_ecst

First of all, welcome to this site. That is a way cool project that you and your dad are starting and you have found the very best place to get advice on how to build a car. How do I know? Well, in 2003, I started a project just like yours with my 10 year old son. It was a great experience that will last a lifetime. Zach is now 15, we have sold our GT/CS to PonyGal on this site and are currently building a 390FE Cobra Replica.

We used this site a great deal to ask questions about how to put things together. There are so many smart people on this site that are very kind about offering advice. In the end, you will have a great piece of history and a great ride to show off to your buddies.

Best of luck to you. Show us pictures so we can better understand your project. I have included a before and after picture of our project.

Oh....and for your dad....my hat is off to you sir....get ready for a grand adventure that I could not just do once....but twice it is so good!

Paul

Welcome to the site. Its a great family and resource, and dont hesitate to ask your questions. We all started with little or no knowledge and have learned from each other. One thing for sure - you have a very unique Mustang to work on, which makes it all the more fun. Casey

Welcome to the site. There are no stupid questions, so don't be afraid to ask. We are here for the car and the friends we make along the way. Pictures, we love pictures.

Should you change from Lime Gold to blue? I assume you mean Acapulco Blue. Here are a few pictures to help you with your decision.

Keep the questions coming; we're more than happy to help!

I wouldn't change an original Lime Gold car today... but I probably would have when I was 16.

Either way; it's your car and you should have fun with it. Welcome to the site!

Hey what's wrong with black? Nuthin'.

Ok so there is another young man on this site (in Wa state also) who also has a lime gold '68 GT/CS. I'll let him chime in at any time.

IMO keep it slime lime!

IMO, RIGHT ON, Amy. Over the years, many of the 34,585 lime gold '68 Mustangs that were produced, have had color changes, even Shelbys and that color was a very, very popular seller. I see very few '68' lime gold on the streets and at the car shows any more. This paint color does require a little more attention in upkeep IMO and experience with owning 3 different ones over the years. BUT, "to each his own". Bob here.

"Kinda a Ford guy"? I'm a little biased on this but I'd say he's a Ford guy alright! Even if nobody else does, I'll talk to him.

I shall offer my welcome to the group also. I live on the other side of Fort Lewis from you - Graham, WA.

This site has a large group of individuals who will help you out in more ways than you can count. We even have a parts guy - Clubpro - who will give you discounts when you order stuff from him.

If you're interested in joining a Mustang Club in this area, the Pierce County Mustang Club holds it's monthly meetings at Korum Ford in Puyallup every third Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

Again welcome to the group and have fun on your project.

Ok, let's go! Bill, Steve, Brett, Dan, Jack (& dad), JBart, get your parade game on. It's a GT/CS caravan to Omak. Dinner & drinks!

Who else is coming?

Wait, is that Idaho? Utah? Someone help me- don't have a map or a brain tonight.

Jack, there is a Spring Opener show in Issaquah May 17th 8am. It's held at a fabulous drive in diner called XXX. I'll be there for sure with my '68 CS. Best burgers & shakes around!

BTW Lance Lambert, host of the "Vintage Vehicle Show" will be at the Issaquah show.
