I've alway said this site is about more than just info on GT/CS and HCS Mustangs. The people on this site are a big part of what it is and has become. People with the love of these cars in common and helping each other anyway possible. She's going to get mad at me for doing this but too bad  ... I want to publicly give a HUGE THANK YOU to Donna (aka Diesel Donna) for something she did for me recently. She could've posted on this site about her adventure but typically didn't toot her own horn, so I will have to do it for her.

The other day Donna IM'd me to say hi and tell me she was in New Mexico during her recent cross country trek. She was going to take a detour through Socorro, NM. (My GT/CS was originally ordered by S&M Ford in Socorro, New Mexico.). She was making the detour specially for me to see if she could track down a license plate frame from S&M Ford. I told her I appreciate that but she didn't need to do that for me. Well that went in one ear and out the other  .

She wasn't able to track down a license plate frame for me and seemed more disappointed than I was! But here is what she did do:

First, she stopped at the current Ford Dealer in Socorro, now Monette Ford.
She asked them for any information on the old S&M Ford. They didn't have anything from the old dealership but was able to get me a frame and plate from the current Monette Ford with Socorro printed on it. She then asked around some more and found out that Monette was the "M" in S&M and that Mr Monette bought out "S".

Then she drove to the site of the original S & M and took pictures for me of the original dealer building. It is still a car dealer of sorts and still owned by Monette Ford. There's a small sign on it with the Monette Ford name. Still looks very 60-ish car dealer motif. She also took pictures of the current Monette Ford.

Having no luck at the dealers obtaining a plate frame, she proceeded to cruise town looking for one and ended up stopping and searching (walking) through a dusty auto graveyard, in what had to be a hot sun in New Mexico, looking to see if she could spot anything on an old car there.

No luck there either on the frame but did get me a copy of the local phone book so I could do some more research.

She then packed up the phone book, plate frame, plate, pictures of the old and new dealer and the local area and a brochure on the area and mailed it to me priority mail.

While she didn't have luck finding me an old dealer frame, what she did find and send me was fantastic!! She found more info out in that day then I've been able to get on my own. The pictures she sent me will go great in a binder I'm putting together to display at shows and cruises with a history on the GT/CS and mine in general. It is so cool being able to now visualize the original dealer building and local area.

I love everything she sent me, but more importantly if she sent me nothing at all, the fact that she took the time on what was already a long drive cross country to take that detour for me meant more than anything she could've sent me.

That's a prime example of what this site is all about!! Sharing and helping each other in anyway possible. Whether it's posting helpful info on the forum or doing what Donna did for me. I really feel everyone on this site is sincere and willing to go out of their way. I've seen it numerous times over the past year of owning my CS and if not for everyone here, I might not have bought my car. You all convinced me and I've never regretted one minute of being a CS owner and a member of this elite group.

So like I said, I know she will be mad at me for doing this, but I needed to publicly thank her since she wouldn't even let me pay for shipping or anything. I wasn't sure what else to do, I hope this shows how thankful I am.

Thank you Donna, you're the Greatest!!

Great site - top people

You nailed it! Mike "Something Special" told me about this place and said he went there every day- thought that was strange, but don't now!!

I visit frequently!!

As to the S & M Ford plate frame story, that's REALLY something!! Did you know, in San Francisco, they still have a dealer called S & C Ford, it existed since way before 1968, if it was S & M Ford, in SF, I've no doubt it would've captured EVERY gay cowboy customer for miles around!!

That was a real good deed by Donna, above and beyond and she is low key, that is just her, but
deserves the highest praise for that!! I will "out" her a little bit (now that it is a fait accompli and she has returned from her trip) but she even offered a space on her trailer to folks here, needing a car hauled home frorm the East coast, and THAT is really a generous and selfless thing to do, you ask me...

From any guy's POV, she's a real diamond!! She likes cars, and she "gets it"
and that'd put her in the top 10 in my hit parade for sure!!

Arlie, Tim and others I have met or spoken to have SINCERELY helped me out and welcomed me here, and I appreciate each and every one of you!!

Truly a great place. Great place for those who love GREAT CARS!!! Thanks to all of you. Off the soapbox, back to the "Specials"

This is also a good time for me to personally thank member "our special" from Canada who volunteered his last extra 2005 CS/HCS calender and mailed that to me free of charge. I wanted to compensate him too but he refused. ( I also wasn't sure of the Canadian/USA exchange rate!) He had also sent some friends of his to the Knott's show and they handed out his business cards and lapel pins from their club. Dave didn't have to do this either but he knew I was looking for a 2005 calender and he offered his. MANY THANKS !!

I've always loved the aroma of burning "diesel" ;-) 'Must be that train thing...

Donna has covertly extended her kindness to my sister Sharon and I as well by PM sending photos of common interests, sharing her familiar anecdotes, giving praise, humor and support everywhere she goes! All the while getting compliments w/o her knowledge from afar until tonite.

A most deserving DD! Thanks for the post BB!!

Donna, if you enjoyed receiving the calender as much as I in giving it, I consider that paid in full.

Take care,
Dave
